It's so close, he can't look ...

The Paper Chasers won a nailbiter on Sunday night, but in the process blew past the competition.

Joe's squad vaulted from 6th to 4th in the money standings with the $18 "mid-major" team victory at the Coca-Cola 600. His team score of 65 nudged Quang's 68 and Matt's 73. Kyle Busch charging through the field to finish 3rd was the difference.

Meanwhile, Todd's Shake & Bake squad made it an individual sweep at Charlotte with Kurt Busch's $9 individual win (to go along with the driver's $6 prize for the All-Star victory).

The development drops Quang and Matt into 5th and 6th in the money standings.

White flag for Fox team

One to go for the only good NASCAR announcing team in the business. Joy, Waltrip and McReynolds will be missed after this week's Coca-Cola 600.

Leading up to the Coke 600, we had another individual win for Joe's Paper Chasers (Kyle Busch) at the Autism Speaks 400 at Dover, as Joe tries to climb out of the money cellar. Meanwhile, Brad's Cheaters won the team race despite ultimate cheater Jimmie Johnson being his #4 driver.

Then in Saturday night's All-Star race, Todd got back in the win column with a $6 winner-take-all pull from his favorite driver, Kurt Busch.

League winnings are updated below with a $145 starting point (instead of $144).

Rednecks burning up

This score-five-drivers format ain't half bad.

The Commish's Redneck Tribe Motorsports remained on fire, securing the team-race win for the fifth time in six weeks, edging Joe's Paper Chasers by five points at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway. A balanced attack lifted the Tribe yet again, with four of its five drivers finishing on the lead lap and the fifth being the first car a lap down. Jeff Gordon led the way with a fourth-place finish.

The Chasers were foiled by Sam Hornish Jr., whose 31st-place result was nearly half of their 65-point team score.

Individually, Quang's Racing Kahne picked up another $7 via Denny Hamlin.

Despite having only one driver in the top 11 (Gordon), the Tribe is only $60 away from the break-even mark for the season.

Clerical error benefits Commish

I neglected to announce a mid-week transaction -- Joe's Paper Chasers picked up Sam Hornish Jr. for Regan Smith on Wednesday -- which ended up being the difference in this week's team race at Richmond.

The Chasers lost out on the team prize by four points (Smith's 30th-place finish was six spots higher than Hornish's 36th) but still collected money for a second consecutive week when Kyle Busch sped past Redneck Tribe's Jeff Gordon for the win. The Tribe's silver lining was winning their fifth team title (fourth outright) of the season, this one worth $14.
